Verweij timber company

Along the Old Rhine, once an important interior shipping route, there has been for some time a significant concentration of firms working in the mill and timber industry. The Verweij Timber Company, a producer of wooden doors and windows, required both restoration and new construction for its business complex near Nieuwebrug.

An office building, in the form of a ‘T', has a continuous band of windows all the way around, and that plus the black and white eaves, refer to the traditional Old Dutch barns in the agricultural centre of Holland.

The building is organized around a central void. Two enormous halls of about 6000 square meters were enlarged, and a third hall of about 2000 square meters was constructed, all faced with horizontal black corrugated iron, with white window trim and black doors. The fire engine red emergency doors present a nice contrast to the Old Dutch atmosphere.
